Philosophy of the Flying Sharks Swim Team

The flying Sharks swim team is a competitive winter swimming league offered for training, instruction, and competition for youth ages 5-18.  This program is in place not only to make successful swimmers, but also to promote improved physical condition, sportsmanship, and self-discipline.  The goal of the program is to develop the life-long appreciation for the sport of competitive swimming while modeling and teaching YMCA values which include honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.  Our hope is that young people will implement these values into all facets of their lives.

According to the Iowa YMCA Competitive Swimming and diving Rules committee, you must be a YMCA member to participate in any swim team activity.  Please remember that no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.  Financial assistance is available.

The Y motto is “we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities,” therefore, we encourage families to be involved in the flying sharks swim activities.  You may choose to attend a competition as a spectator or volunteer at swim meets, but know that your involvement at any level is meaningful to your child, healthy or your family and helps the Nishna Valley Family YMCA accomplish its mission.
